  • Brompton Urban Challenge: Sunday, 8/16

Save the Date! The Brompton Urban Challenge takes NYC by storm on Sunday, 8/16! This scavenger hunt + photography competition is open to all bikes, as long as one person on your team has a Brompton! Registration is live.

Calling all Bromptoneers, here is your chance to take on the Brompton Urban Challenge! The Brompton Urban Challenge is an event that will test your skill, creativity and ingenuity through a variety of fun and exciting challenges throughout the streets of New York City.

The inaugural New York City Brompton Urban Challenge is set to be a whole lot of fun. We are very excited to invite you to the Brompton Cafe to share a coffee and a donut before sending you out armed with bicycles, clues, and cameras to get creative.

The two-wheeled scavenger hunt is open to all bicycles, but each team must feature at least one Brompton. There will be a limited number of Brompton bikes available to borrow for the day, so please indicate your interest at the time of registration. Also, the event will coincide with the city's Summer Streets initiative, so there's no excuse for not getting involved!

  • Loss of funding for Afghan Women's Cycling Team

We are DEVASTATED to learn that 2 major sponsors of the Afghan Women's National Cycling Team pulled funding, citing the Charlie Hebdo attacks.

As Shannon writes in an essay on Adventure Journal:

"[They] censored themselves and abandoned their social responsibility. Their company could have driven social change in a positive way, with a unique opportunity, as it once promised, but it didn’t. Rather, it let down a team of young women who are all too well-versed in disappointment and threats, and gave in to fear. The girls will get by, of course; a loss of funding hurts, but it pales compared to the threats they face every day."

Shannon, whose nonprofit, Mountain 2 Mountain, has been working to grow the team, spoke at Redbeard Bikes in the fall.

We are proud that Liv Cycling USA remains a sponsor.

If you believe, as we do, in the power of bicycles to change the world for the better, please share this post. And please reach out to Mountain 2 Mountain, if you are able to offer financial support.
